Secondary School for Hospitality and Tourism

Since its foundation in 1908, MODUL has acquired an international reputation as one of the best and most renowned training centres for the hospitality and tourism industry worldwide. The facility combines a long standing tradition of excellence with state-of-the-art training.

A team of highly qualified teachers and experts from the industry conveys up-to-date knowledge and skills in all subjects relevant for the business. Special attention is paid to the students’ personal development and to sound general education. Cornerstones in teaching objectives are team-spirit, open-mindedness, creativity and the desire for life-long learning. This programme makes students fit for starting a career in the hospitality and tourism industry.

Each class has its own partner company in the industry which, acting as a mentor, allows students to gain hands-on experience in the business.

Some facts:

  • Five-year full-time education, each year being divided into 2 semesters
  • Minimum age: 14 years
  • Admission requirements: successful completion of four years of a junior secondary school
  • Number of students admitted every year: 108

  • Practical diploma exam at the end of the fourth year
  • After successfully passing the ‘Reife- und Diplomprüfung’ (equivalent to ‘A’ Levels) graduates can either start working in the industry, even open up their own business after some years of practical experience or continue their studies at any university in Austria or abroad.

The curriculum is very comprehensive and comprises subjects of general education, commercial subjects and practical subjects. (Please see the reverse for more details.)

All students have to study English and one additional foreign language.

After the third year the students specialize in Hospitality Management or Tourism and Leisure Management.

We place great emphasis on practical training. Students gain practical experience either in departments of the school (cafeteria, café, information office,...), at outside caterings, in partner hotels or in the Café-Restaurant MODUL, which is also run by the Vienna Chamber of Commerce. During their time at MODUL students have to do work placements of eight months in hotels or tourism operations in Austria or abroad.

The perfect combination of theory and practice makes graduates of this unique programme fit for a successful career in the hospitality and tourism industry worldwide.

MODUL – simply the best in hospitality and tourism education!
