A Day Trip to Styria for ICHM 1 & 3

A full day bus trip was organized for ICHM 1 & 3 by Mr. Joshua Elbaranes, Cooking and Kitchen Management teacher on October 7, 2011. Despite the terribly rainy and cold weather, ICHm 1 & 3 students had a very enjoyable and informative day in Styria visiting 3 well-known Austrian Culinary Enterprises – Gölles, Zotter and Vulcano.

After a guided tour and a short film about the GÖLLES distillery, students tasted 7 different vinegars and two liqueurs. The Fair Trade Zotter chocolate “experience” was our second stop. The very professional sales and marketing at Zotter were very impressive and everyone had more than their share of delicious chocolates. Later in the afternoon, we visited one of the farms which raises pigs for the air dried Vulcano Proscuitto. Students were able to buy and take home delicious products for their families and friends.

Our foreign students got to see another part of Austria and both classes got to know each other better. We hope to have more “joint ventures” with ICHM 1 & 3.
