A day at the Marriott

On Thursday, November 25, ICHM 1 spent the day working in the Housekeeping Department at the Marriott Hotel/Parkring in Vienna. The day long “field experience” was organized by Ms. Alexandra Hackl, teacher for Rooms Division Management and was enabled through Mr. Alexander Lang, Rooms Manager at Marriott and a Modul graduate (2005). Three students began their day at 6.45 to observe the daily room assignments to the housekeeping staff. The rest of the class arrived at 8.00 and each student was assigned to a room maid whom they accompanied and worked with until 16.00. Marriott Hotel also provided lunch for the students in the hotel’s staff canteen. ICHM also had the chance to tour the only remaining in-house laundry in any of the major Viennese hotels. ICHM student Andreas Fischer said “I certainly have great respect for the profession of room maid and value the work done in housekeeping much, much more after this “hands-on” opportunity”.
